What did the hacker do when Cardano ($ADA) official community was hacked last night?

Something went wrong! Last night (12/8), the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the Cardano Foundation was hacked by unknown hackers.

According to The Block's report, the hackers' modus operandi is quite meticulous, divided into two phases:

First, the hacker released a long post promoting a new Token called "ADAsol", claiming it to be "a reimagining of Cardano for Solana".

Unlike the usual low-quality eyewash, the content of this post is obviously well-crafted, including 13 coherent tweets and even linking to the official website of Cardano Foundation and recent podcast content.

This carefully designed method seems to have really deceived some investors, allowing the hacker's fake currency to generate a volume of over $500,000 in a short period of time.

Although the fake coin post was quickly deleted, the hacker has posted another sensational fake notice claiming that the Cardano Foundation is being sued by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and claiming to immediately stop supporting $ADA coin. Although the false post has been set to prohibit netizens from commenting, the cumulative number of views has exceeded 250,000.

Statement from Cardano ($ADA) Community after being hacked

Fortunately, the hacking incident did not last long. The Cardano team later issued a statement confirming the breach and actively working to salvage the situation. It was emphasized that the hackers only breached account X, and that it did not affect other systems or platforms.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson also confirmed in a post that the official account was hacked. As of this morning (12/9), the Cardano Foundation (Cardano_CF) once again posted news about the fake coin $ADAsol, but the related posts have been deleted as of the time of writing. However, the founder has not responded to whether the account is secure.

It is not new for official accounts to be hacked. How to distinguish between true and false information?

According to a report by Cointelegraph, the Cardano Foundation is not the first project to encounter X account hacking, and similar hacker incidents have been rampant recently.

In December 2023, Compound Finance was hacked and the hacker released phishing links imitating the official website.

In October 2024, the X accounts of well-known blockchain projects such as Symbiotic and Eigenlayer were successively hacked.

In November 2024, rapper Wiz Khalifa's account was also used to promote fake coins.

In the face of such hacker incidents, investors must remain highly vigilant and not blindly believe any notices on social media. Even if the post seems to come from an official source, actively confirm the authenticity of the message through official websites and multiple official channels.

Furthermore, when encountering seemingly attractive launch coin announcements or airdrop activities, it is important to question and doubt again. Especially those posts that promise high returns or urge you to take immediate action are often precursors of eyewash.

Finally, develop the habit of using official certified channels to obtain information, and always pay attention to the project's official website and multiple official announcement channels. In the encryption currency market full of opportunities and risks, caution and verification are always the most important principles.
